According to the World Health Organization, it has been estimated that around 800,000 people die by suicide across the world each year. It has been debated among critics that its portrayal in media can lead to imitation by some, influencing these numbers. Some people who end their lives or attempt suicide might be trying to escape feelings of rejection, hurt, or loss. Others might feel angry, ashamed, or guilty about something. Some people may be worried about disappointing friends or family members. And some may feel unwanted, unloved, victimized, or like they’re a burden to others. TV shows that focus on suicide topics mainly affect people who are mentally unstable, which leads them to commit suicide. Media impact will lead teenagers to commit suicide because they reflect real-life problems, showing that suicide is the only way to escape the world, and simply encouraging teenagers to do the same “copycat”.
